However, I can speak for myself, Sarah Catherine Megas.
As I speak from my perspective, that is, from my experience and through my own mind and heart, all I’m interested in doing is use my words and energy to spread luminous and lucid messages of hope and love.
I can only wish this may contribute to peace and reconciliation.
That’s where I’m speaking from.
I discovered Norton Rose Fulbright Canada via Ogilvy Renault.
In 2007, I was pre-recruited by Deloitte, which allowed me to swing by the office even though I didn’t work there yet. I was a nobody. I was a second-year business student at HEC Montréal, who had just picked Accounting as her major because Deloitte accidentally pre-recruited her.
I'll explain my use of "accidentally" in a later post. I had close to zero connections, well below zero capital, and I wasn’t even a law student (yet).
Back in 2007, Ogilvy Renault’s Montreal office was located at Place Ville-Marie, and so did Deloitte, that is, before Deloitte had her own tower in Montreal, and before Ogilvy Renault and Norton Rose Fulbright Canada merged into one firm.
When they were both at Place Ville-Marie, Ogilvy Renault and Deloitte shared an elevator.
Thanks to the grace that made me take said elevator, I once asked a very senior partner at Ogilvy Renault if she minded teaching my HEC Montréal Ethics teammates and I about real-life tricky situations, like product recalls and crisis management, as we prepared for Les Jeux du Commerce, a significant competition among business schools.
I had no idea how senior she was, but I recognized her face from a Droit-inc. article mentioning the launch of her new practice.

That's all I thought about when I recognized her face in the elevator.
I likely reached out apologizing for the trouble
And admitting I may have forgotten her name
But I wondered if she happened to be the person
Whose face I had just seen in the papers
About the launch of a meaningful practice
Not only did this incredible woman agree to welcoming me and my HEC Montréal teammates in her office for a pro-bono primer (to business schoolers) on what it’s like to advise clients on out-of-this-worldly complicated matters like the kind she and her team handled on the daily, but she also agreed to taking me under her wings for some incredibly meaningful conversations.
Meeting Maître Christine Carron and discovering her kind of kindness and wisdom gave me the courage to jump into law school and forego a career at Deloitte.

Maître Christine Carron n’est pas qu’une juriste de très haute voltige.
Pour moi, Maître Christine Carron est d’abord et avant tout une femme exceptionnelle.
Chaque minute de son attention qu’elle m’a déjà accordée a généré dans mon cœur plus d’espoirs que je ne saurais lui chanter.
J’ai depuis longtemps arrêté de compter le nombre de fois où j’ai pensé à elle et à la sacralité de nos échanges, c'est à dire, le nombre de fois où j'ai fait appel à ses sagesses.
Je ne l’ai pas dérangée quand ça allait bien. Je ne suis pas la seule à avoir besoin d’elle. Mes victoires n’avaient pas de quoi l’impressionner, alors, je n’allais pas lui demander de poser son attention sur moi à chaque fois que j’aurais bien voulu la compter parmi les membres de mon entourage.
En revanche, j’ai fait appel à sa figure plus de milliers de fois déjà, c’est-à-dire :
J’ai repensé à nos conversations.
J’ai analysé des situations en imaginant ce qu’elle répondrait s’il elle était avec moi pour faire face à ces situations en me basant sur ce qu’elle avait déjà eu le temps de me dire lors de nos conversations.
Je l’ai imaginée à mes côtés quand j’étais la seule personne dans une salle à défendre les idées que je jugeais opportun d’amener, en me disant :
Si Maître Christine Carron m’entendait, elle me dirait si je me trompe.
Je ne voudrais jamais la décevoir, alors,
Comment agir et que dire
Pour ne jamais risquer de faire regretter à une femme aussi importante
Et occupée que Maître Christine Carron de m’avoir déjà accordé
Autant de sa précieuse énergie dans le cadre de nos conversations ?
Pro-bono.

Maître Christine Carron incarne la figure de la mentor par excellence.
Maître Christine Carron m’a déjà donné tout ce dont j’avais besoin, et bien plus encore.
La dernière fois que j’ai eu le privilège que Maître Christine Carron m’accorde de son attention, j’ai pu sonder ses sagesses sur le projet doctoral de recherche interdisciplinaire dans lequel je me lance non seulement le cœur en avant mais surtout avec la peur tétanisante de raconter du gros n’importe quoi.
J’ai besoin de conversations avec du monde qui s’y connait. Si je tente de développer un concept théorique qui est à mille lieux de la réalité du terrain, mes travaux de recherche ne mériteront aucune attention, mais surtout aucun de mes efforts.
Je veux aider, pas raconter ce qui me chante. Ça tombe drôlement bien !

Maître Christine Carron a aussi une formation en sociologie, dont elle maîtrise notamment les outils, comme les méthodes quantitatives, avec lesquelles j’ai pour ma part quelques soucis. Dès lors, il va sans dire que je rêve de sonder ses sagesses quant à mes projets de recherche sur des enjeux sociaux contemporains.
La dernière fois que je l'ai vue, je n'ai fait que parler.
Maître Christine Carron n'a pas seulement eu la grâce de bien vouloir m'écouter,
Maître Christine Carron m'a indiqué :
- Les éléments de ma pensée que je devais nuancer
- La référence au parquet de la Llyod's of London que j'ai utilisée dans mon message LinkedIn annonçant cette lettre ouverte (i.e. Maître Christine Carron m'a partagé une anecdote qui l'avait émerveillée et cela m'a inspiré une phrase d'une publication poétique que j'ai écrite quelques mois après notre conversation)
- Sa confiance renouvelée à l'égard de l'excentricité et de l'audace dont je fais preuve avec elle et par lesquelles je pourrais frôler l'insolence et l'injure, quand sous prétexte de sonder ses sagesses, je finis par ne faire que lui parler de moi, de mes rêves, et de mes idées.
Heureusement pour moi, Maître Christine Carron a déjà eu l'occasion de me montrer un visage si bienveillant et érudit que je sais pertinemment que si je devais faire preuve d'insolence et de manquer de respect, Maître Christine Carron m'aiderait à apprendre les codes (plutôt que de me tomber dessus en me reprochant de ne pas les connaître, soit en insinuant que je les enfrains par malveillance) soit une correction appliquée dans l'art et avec la manière, puisque Maître Christine Carron est une juriste de très haute voltige qui n'est pas là pour me donner des leçons et qui ne me laissera pas pour autant faire et dire n'importe quoi ;
Mais aussi et peut-être surtout,
Car Maître Christine Carron a déjà eu à gérer
Bien plus grave et complexe que l'effet
Bull-in-a-China-Shop qu'il m'arrive de susciter.

Maître Christine Carron means business.
That means, Maître Christine Carron knows how to handle discipline.
That means, Maître Christine Carron will know the ways to make me understand if I have crossed a line that is worth enforcing, without coming at me like a wrecking ball.
That means, Maître Christine Carron will remind me of the fundamental principles I'm trespassing, and show me ways to navigate troubled waters without drowning.
That way, she won't make me feel small.
That way, she'll give me the courage
To keep invoking her figure to help me navigate
Without ever being afraid that I may have said
Or done something worth a scolding.
The last thing I want is to disappoint her.

Ne pas être insultée du fait qu’une jeune mal fagotée, qui plus est sans titre ni domicile professionnel fixe, ose sortir en même temps qu’elle de l’ascenseur (à l’étage d’Ogilvy Renault, donc, pas chez Deloitte) et se permette de lui demander son attention, dans la plus grande des révérences pourtant adossée à plusieurs insultes aux protocoles et règles de bienséance, puisque Maître Christine Carron était alors associée principale et membre de l’équipe Rappels de produits et gestion de crise au sein du plus gros cabinet en droit des affaires de l’époque et du lieu que j’occupais, c’est une chose.
Maître Christine Carron n’a pas été insultée, mais surtout :
Maître Christine Carron m’a souri et m’a ensuite accordé de précieuses heures de son temps, alors pourtant que tant d’autres ont besoin d’elle, tout en étant dans des situations bien plus dramatiques que mes maigres circonstances.
Je me souviens qu’en 2007, Maître Christine Carron était déjà très impliquée avec la pratique pro-bono d’Ogilvy Renault, notamment pour aider des personnes détenues dans des circonstances contraires aux principes de l'habeas corpus.
C’est parce que Maître Christine Carron m’a montré ce visage
Que je peux affirmer que Maître Christine Carron
Est une juriste de très haute voltige,
Qui plus est une femme exceptionnelle,
Et qu’une conversation avec elle
Est un des cadeaux les plus sacrés qu’il m’a été offert de recevoir.
Elle aurait pu me dire d’apprendre les bonnes manières. Elle aurait aussi pu appeler la sécurité.
Pour qui je me prenais ?
Je ne peux pas savoir. Je n’étais qu’en 2e année de bac dans une faculté ou l’acronyme « Ad.E. » n’est pas expliqué.
Pour qui Maître Christine Carron ne s’est certainement jamais prise ?
J’ose affirmer que je peux le savoir, puisque Maître Christine Carron a répondu à mon insolence dans la plus tendre des bienveillances.

From that perspective, when I saw Jennifer Teskey’s LinkedIn post today, I knew I should stop and read.
I trust Norton Rose Fulbright Canada’s Canadian Managing Partner, since I trust Maître Christine Carron, formally associée principale d’Ogilvy Renault.
At the first sentence from Jennifer Teskey that I read, I could see Maître Christine Carron’s values. Maître Christine Carron is Advocate Emeritus. Pro-bono is something she’s always done and will likely always do.
Pro-bono is in her blood, not in her dreams.
But thank goodness, Maître Christine Carron’s magic wasn’t confined to pro-bono work alone.
Maître Christine Carron’s impact as a jurist and as a mentor is incommensurable for many reasons, one being that Maître Christine Carron was able to conduct and perform one of the most intricated and significant dance between two opposite realms, that is : the lands of pro-bono and the waters of “what it’s like to be a Senior Partner of what was then one of the most influential business law firms of the territory I occupied”.
Maître Christine Carron’s impact as a jurist and as a mentor is incommensurable for many reasons, one being that Maître Christine Carron can navigate (and therefore reconcile) realms that abide to very different sets of rules.
It takes quite a jurist to dance that dance.
Il takes quite a person to dance that dance and be as honorable in the rest of her life as the face that Maître Christine Carron showed me countless times.
Therefore, when I read Jennifer Teskey’s first sentence of LinkedIn post today, I knew she meant business.
I clicked “play”, and what unfolded before my eyes was the confirmation of all the good stuff I just said about Maître Christine Carron:
It applies to her (former) partners and (former or current) teammates, but also to the people incarnating Norton Rose Fulbright Canada during the holiday season of 2025, which includes and is not limited to their Canadian Managing Partner, that is, Jennifer Teskey.
Below are a few quotes from the video that, from my perspective and based on my experience and perception of the content of the video, meant business as in:

I’ll write way more about this, but for now, I leave the quotes that moved me deeply and that I heard knowing wholeheartedly that the people who said these words not only meant what they said, but also meant business.
If I was a law student in Canada, which almost happened when my name appeared on the waiting list of a bachelor's degree in law at McGill University, back in 2011, you can be sure I would have rushed to Norton Rose Fulbright Canada’s student recruitment events and begged them to pick me.
However, I didn’t make it to McGill University as a law student, since I only made waitlist. I went on to study the law with jurists who mean what they say and mean business in Paris instead.
Therefore, I can only assume that had I been a law student in Canada, I might have never been able to even knock at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada’s front door and hope for them to consider me, let alone let me in!
Norton Rose Fulbright Canada is in high demand,
And I only made it waitlist at McGill.
Thank goodness, therefore, that Maître Christine Carron invited me to take a glimpse at her world, and showed me how wonderful of a person she is.
That made me trust 100% the below:
