When you hear the roaring, just keep on singing.
Anyone placed in a position to offer safety and/or belonging
Will eventually be faced with the dilemma
Of offering safety and/or belonging to someone else
At the price of putting their own safety and/or belonging at risk.
From this position can come grace,
When the person placed in the position to offer
Safety and/or belonging reflects on their potential shortcomings
And educates themselves about ways to gracefully deal with
Situations placing them in front of that dilemma.
From this position can also come greed and lust,
To an extent:
Unknown to anyone who was never placed in a position
To offer safety and/or belonging;
And to an extent:
Potentially overlooked by anyone placed in a position
To offer safety and/or belonging
Who is unaware of their potential shortcomings.
At the onset of an abuse of power,
There can be greed and/or lust, but
There can also be fear, within the dilemma,
Which “left unchecked”, may turn into greed and/or lust.

Giving a person the authority over
Other people and/or
Resources and/or
Any form of power by which
Someone may be in a position to tell another person that they make decisions
Regarding their safety and/or their belonging
Without ensuring that anyone placed “under their authority”
Knows the lines by which the person “holding the authority”
Over their safety and/or their belonging would be trespassing
By putting their own safety and/or belonging above
The safety and/or belonging of “the weakest links” within their net,
May it be by fear "left unchecked" or by greed and/or by lust,
Is allowing for apostasy.

She teaches in the field, and meets all criteria: she knows what she’s talking about
When it comes to wielding power.
She’s been around for quite some time: she made sure to be seen and heard as
An expert, in power wielding.
She’s worked tirelessly and meticulously: she ensured her foundations could never be
Shaken, on the grounds of misuse of the trust invested in her, to wield all that power.
Someone raised their hand.
The system flagged an anomaly.
She feels the finger pointed at her.
She sweats it out, that one night
And then she rests assured:
The system will conclude in her favor.
When they interview her, she’ll say:
She didn’t know she couldn’t omit that detail;
She didn’t mean to hide that detail;
She didn’t benefit from that detail;
She wouldn’t omit that detail, from now on;
She would advise that it was just a little detail;
She would recommend that she is left alone, i.e. “Let’s move on!”
She is confident in the way she tells them to back off.
She teaches in the field and meets more criteria
Of expertise in the field than all the rest of the team
Combined, she also did her research and came back
With a list of counterarguments to that little finger
That she would like to see pointing towards
The ceiling, down the drain, her peers,
Anywhere else but her.
After they interview her, they feel like something’s wrong.

To shake that feeling off, without brushing it off
They hire some experts in the field of wielding power.
They agree on a price, and ask for their expert opinion
On the matter of whether she abused her power.
These experts have an advantage over her.
Whatever they will conclude will be stamped
As a bulletproof argumentation regarding the matter
Of that one little detail she failed to mention
Over and over again, throughout the years
All the while asserting dominance over
All the little fingers raising questions
Regarding the wielding of power.
To build their bulletproof argumentation regarding any matter
These hired experts have diligently built all sorts of fortifications
Around their expertise. They are as confident as the Jebusites
Respectfully telling David to go find himself other walls to dwell in.
Whatever they can recommend, on the question of the wielding
Of power, only has two ways to be received: as a relief, or as a grief.
In the case of that one lady, they are thorough in ensuring
That all avenues have been explored, so that the relief
They will provide her will be rooted in all the rules combined
That were objectively applicable to her.
They’ll turn and toss many stones.
They’ll uproot and toss many weeds.
They’ll open and toss many arguments
That could have made their gracious decision come as a grief.
“Indeed, she omitted that thing,
Even though that thing is straight up her alley, i.e. it’s a significant matter in her field.
Indeed, that thing could be considered,
As important as a tiny little detail, or quite a big deal indeed, depending on who’s asking.
Indeed, she only indirectly benefited from omitting
What she considers to be an insignificant tiny little detail, and we could agree.
Therefore, she is fine and should be left alone.
You have thirty days to pay our invoice in full without incurring penalties.”
When the decision comes back, everyone is relieved.
“Good grief!” is being chanted instead of being shouted.
“Good grief! Good grief! Good grief!” everybody keeps chanting.
She celebrates the decision with a cigar and some champagne.
She will never again be bothered for the little details she has been hiding.
She was close to getting caught, she got caught and they told her to proceed.
While the system who raised the flag keeps on roaring
One can hear some little voices take out one of the Good Books
And open it at Psalm 83, skimming randomly to sing:
“O God, do not keep silence;
Do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
For behold your enemies make an uproar;
Those who hate you have raised their heads.
They lay crafty plans against your people;
They consult together against your treasured ones.
[…]
Do to them as you did [to those]
Who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves
Of the pastures of God.”
O my God, make them like the whirling dust,
Like chaff before the wind.”
